Mario’s
Mario’s

One hot summer day my husband stopped to buy a bottle of water at Mario's. The aroma took him over, so he turned his quick stop into a full blown lunch break. He tried their spice-flavored olive oil and recommends you take some home along with their daily baked fresh bread. We came back a week later to sample all their homemade items and were incredibly glad we did. To start, Mario has some terrific homemade side salads that include Potato, the Italian Macaroni and Pesto Pasta. Then, you must try the Stuffed Rigatoni Arugula Salad and the Oriental Noodle with chicken. If you want a real treat have the Mozzarella Capri Stack, made with their homemade cheese. Also, the family sure knows how to prepare their chicken. Anything made with their chicken cutlets is a definite winner. Their Italian Deli Sandwiches make you feel like you're right in south Philly and visualizing “Rocky” running down 9th Street. Mario new Beach Haven store has introduced Panini's and they rate just as good as his father's sandwiches. This is a takeout only place, but if you are down for the day make the 10 to15 minute trip north to the Barnegat Lighthouse State Park. Mario and his family will make you the best picnic lunch you've ever eaten. If you go to the park, you will pass right by the Surf City Store to leave the island, so be sure to stop in and have a Cannoli or if you LOVE chocolate, coffee and cheesecake, you must have their Mocha Chocolate Torte. This is a Coffee flavored cheesecake with a rich dark Chocolate Icing and a surprise on top. It is easily one of the best dessert's I've ever tasted. Come and meet the Aversa Family: Peter, both Mario's and Phyllis (the matriarch), and they will treat you to a wonderful Italian Experience.
